DIABETIC MOMMY'S REVIEW:

Rating: 5 Stars out of 5, July 2004

Exercise is a very important part of your diabetes regimen. Exercising even 15 minutes a day could make a noticable change in your glucose levels. However, I hate to exercise.

I am one of those people who have exercise machines doubling as dusty clothes hangers. I have a Total Gym sitting in the back storage room acting as a shelf for boxes. I have a cardio bike sitting on the back porch that just looks pretty, although I do get on it once in a while. I also have a cardioglide-like machine that finally got loaned out so I have more room around here.

My saddest story is the old glider, pretty much exactly like Tony Little's Power Plus Fitness System, sitting outside leaning against the wall. The saddest part is that this was the machine that I actually had fun on, and lost some weight within a relatively short time.

So, why, you ask, is it sitting outside? Well, while I LOVED this machine. My home is just not conducive to it. I have a 3-year-old who is very clingy and two old mutts who are just as clingy and every single one of them wants a piece of me when I get on this thing. The legs swing fast and far, and more than once one of the dogs got it in the face when they got too close when I wasn't looking. I was afraid of getting the kid too. That wouldn't be good. Another problem is that our home does not have a whole lot of floor room, so wherever this machine got put it was always in the way. The machine I had was very much like this one, and both are supposed to be folded and transported easily but that depends on what your definition of easily is. I have heard from at least one owner of this very machine (Tony Little's) that they don't want to fool with putting it away, and they just leave it out. After experiencing too much trouble just having it around, I had to send it outside into the hot Arizona sun so that we could get some traffic flowing through the house again. If I had the room for it, I'd surely use it often.

I have tried Tony Little's machine and I would swear mine was the exact same one, but I remember mine said something like Health Glider on it. However, it too had the resistance, the monitor, built-in handgrip, and the heavy steel tubing.

A n y w a y...the machine is fun to use. It feels like you are jogging or flying through the air. It almost feels like a ride. Another nice feature is that it is whisper quiet so you can watch TV or listen to nice music with no irritating noises polluting the air (unless you count the 104 "mama's" pathetically whined while you are exercising). I became addicted to the thing. I would try to better my last distance or calorie count. I had amazing energy. My husband could also testify that this was the only machine that I used with anything resembling regularity.

I highly recommend it. I wish I could sell this house and buy another one just so I could get another glider!

NOTE: Do not start a new exercise regimen without consulting your doctor and healthcare team, especially if you are pregnant.
